The Difference Between Being a Success and a Successful Life

by Chris Widener
I was reading an article the other day about a famous athlete and one of his teammates made a comment that I found interesting. He said, off the record of course, that his famous teammate would have a funeral so small that it could be held in a fitting room.
Now, most people would consider this athlete "successful." He is rich beyond anyone's imagination. He has and will set world records. He will undoubtedly be elected into his Hall of Fame, most likely on the first ballot.
But he is not a successful human being. It is common knowledge that he is universally disliked.
This got me to thinking. I am attending two funerals this week. One is the funeral of a man who was "successful" in the eyes of the world. That is, he made a lot of money. But he wasn't a terribly successful human being. He was estranged from his oldest son and hadn't spoken with him in years. He was a borderline alcoholic. There were other storms in his life. About 50 people will attend.
The other funeral is for a man who was not "successful" in the eyes of the world. You would have never given him a second look had you seen him in the store. He wasn't wealthy. He was not high-profile. Yet he was quite a successful human being. People were encouraged and built up by this man. People were better because he graced their lives, even in small ways. His funeral will have about 200 people there, paying their last respects. He would have never guessed there would be that many, yet after he died, people came out of the woodwork to speak highly of him.
So what is the difference? And can we be both "successful" and a successful human being. I believe that we can have both. I do believe it is hard because the accumulation of wealth takes time and time at work, which usually takes away from time doing things that foster human relationships. But it is possible. It can be done by those who understand balanced living and are aggressive time and priority managers. Give yourself time to make your fortune or pursue your dreams, but give yourself time to make yourself a successful life as well. Here are some tips for being a successful human being who has a successful life:Love People, Use Things.People who become "successful" and miss a successful life are those who love things and use people. Be sure to put people as a priority for your life.Take time off.Life isn't just about work. There is so much else to experience here in this life, and unfortunately, too little time to enjoy it.Be a giver.Be someone who gives more than takes. Yes, we all have to take from time to time, but we should take only when we need to and give every time we have a chance to!Be a life-long learner.I truly believe that we become better people as we learn. Take time throughout your life to grow and learn and become a better person.Keep a sense of humor.People who laugh are a gift to the world. Don't take yourself or your circumstances to seriously. Learn to look on the bright side and see the humor in situations.Honor your commitments. This is a key to a successful life. We live this life based on commitments we make toward one another. Those who honor those commitments are those who will be respected and trusted by others.Mentor someone.Always take the time to mentor someone. I know this firsthand because of the energy a few people put into my life, sometimes just letting me know that they believed in me. This goes a long way and makes the world a better place!I am sure there are other aspects of a successful life, but these are the simple ones that you can begin to apply today. Remember, you can work and become a success, and I encourage you to do so, but don't forget to live a successful life as well!

10 Traits Of A Successful Human Being

There’s a lot of talk about what you should do to become successful, but I would argue that it’s more about who you are that makes the biggest impact.  It’s the decisions we make on a daily basis, the habits we naturally form in our lives that determine the level of success we can achieve.  Who we are determines how we react to life, even when we’re not consciously in the act of ‘being successful’.
So here are 10 traits that I’ve seen as essential for obtaining lasting success in any endeavor.

1. An Independent Nature

If we rely too much on those around us for assistance and/or support we will be setting ourselves up for disappointment in the future.  This is not to say that we shouldn’t look to others for help when the time is right, but crafting our pursuits in such a way that requires the intervention of another is like handing over the keys and getting in the back seat.  Our friends and colleagues may help open the doors of opportunity, but it is our own responsibility to take the wheel.

2. Self Confidence

Every decision we make in life will have some kind of effect on future outcomes.  If our choices our filtered through fear and doubt, we can be assured of the life we are trying to avoid.  Trust your instincts and listen to your heart.  When you make a mistake, don’t look at it as reason for doubt, but instead, realize the opportunity for wisdom as you continue to push ahead.

3. Persistence

It’s been 5 years since I started my consulting business.  5 years of long hours and hard work.  Many times did I consider throwing in the towel when things didn’t go my way.  But every year that’s gone by, every road block I’ve pushed through, my business has grown as my resolve to make it a success has strengthened.  Persistence is not an optional trait for those who desire success, but an essential attitude that must be embraced!

4. A Big Imagination

When I think of some of the greatest ‘achievers’ in American history I see great innovators and people of purpose.  Names like Henry Ford, Walt Disney and Bill Gates come to mind.  From cars to cartoons to computers, their personalities were as diverse as their pursuits.  But one thing they share is the wonderful ability to see what’s not yet visible to the naked eye.  It was the imagination of Henry Ford that first painted the picture of a car in every garage, and Bill Gates, a computer in every home.  And it was Walt Disney who continues to inspire millions with the idea that ‘anything is possible’.
Those with inevitable success can see the unseen.  They’ve become successful in their minds before they laid their first brick.

5. A Thick Skin

I’m a people pleaser at heart and can be devastated by disappointment.  But as a necessity in business, I’ve grown a thick skin that allows me to deflect defeat while maintaining my focus.  Whether in corporate conflict or the liabilities of life, it is those with a strong armor who will maintain their momentum.

6. Clarity Of Self Understanding

If you don’t know who you are, you will never truly know what you’re capable of.  It is in our daily pursuits that we need accurate information on our strengths and weaknesses to succeed.  Because being blind sided by your own inability or missing out on your true talents will bring nothing more than failure and frustration.

7. Clarity Of Intent

Continuing with the analogy of Ford, Disney and Gates, we can see three individuals with very clear intentions.  No one ever questioned Ford’s intentions of filling the roads with his Model T’s.  Disney was never far from his pursuits of capturing our imaginations.  And even when no one believed in his dream of populating every home with a PC, there was never a question of Gates greatest goal.

8. Focus

There’s a lot of talk about multi-tasking and single tasking when it comes to getting things done.  But however you go about accomplishing your goals, focus must be at the core of your character.  Successful people have the knack for deflecting distraction and keeping their nose to the grindstone.  It is our drive that pushes us forward and keeps our momentum, but without focus we will just be moving for the sake of motion.

9. Optimism

Many of the traits mentioned thus far would not be possible without this key ingredient.  Without being able to constantly see the cup as half full, we would never be able to stay focused.  Being blind to that silver lining would paralyze our persistence.  So it is absolutely crucial that our minds maintain a positive outlook on life and never give in to the destruction of defeat.  Optimism is at the heart of a successful human being!

10. Passion

Success can be obtained by many, but maintaining the drive to reach our goals requires a passion for pursuit and a lust for life.  We can create a to-do list and set our goals with the best of them, but without this necessary habitual hunger, we will most certainly fail to bring to the table the results we imagined.

Easy Ways to Get Rich Quick

Though I have always been against ‘get rich schemes and tips’, I have been receiving numerous emails asking the much-repeated question ‘how to get rich quick.’
Earlier, I had posted many articles on investing in 401k savings, CD’s, savings account, stock market, real estate, and gold. These tips, however, ensured a steady income rather than quick riches. This explains the bedlam of people wanting to earn money overnight. Not anymore. Here is a list of things to do to earn money instantly.
  1. Stock Market Speculation
We all know stock market is a place to earn a fortune. You just need to invest in right companies and at right time. Remember, every big company once started small. Find an emerging company in a booming sector, and invest in it.
  2. Buy Property
Housing prices are definitely not at their peaks. Get a mortgage and start buying properties at prime locations, and wait for the right time to arrive, which isn’t far now.
  3. Get stock market tips
But not from the market gurus on the web. Get some real information from people scurrying around the Wall Street. They know the secrets; why do you think they have 20 cars and 5 mansions?
  4. Gamble
Ever tried gambling? No? The good news is, you can learn almost everything on the web, including levitation. That’s not gambling though. You can learn many skills online, essential to win in blackjacks, craps.
  5. Blogging
Almost everyone can start a blog. Don’t believe me? Look at this blog, I know nothing about personal finance, yet I am earning. Write posts, perform SEO, paste some ads, and voila! Quick Cash!
  6. Tax Returns
Cheek the list of things you can claim as deduction, or consult a shrewd attorney, and get a considerable amount bank in your bank account. And when you get this money, use the other 6 tips to get rich quick.
  7. Win a lottery
Chances of winning a lottery are very low. And the unfortunate part is, most people think as you do. Why do you have to buy a single ticket? Get as many as possible, and the chances suddenly surges.
10 minutes later…
What? I just received a call from my accountant and lawyer, and while discussing these things with them, I realized I have got few facts wrong.
Umm, where do I start? Okay… stock market speculation doesn’t seem to be a great idea, it’s actually gambling, not investing. And gambling isn’t a good idea either. If it would have been so easy winning in blackjacks, more than half of world’s population would have been rich; actually, very rich, because they would gamble more with the money received. And my lawyer says, real estate is a good investment, but for long term. In short-term, the market is volatile, and it’s expected to drop further. Even if the market rises and you earn quickly, you will have to pay taxes on short term capital gains.
And I though I were earning thousands on my blog everyday. My accountant, however, just informed me I have few cents in my adsense account, and that’s a monthly income.
What about the lottery money? If I win, I wouldn’t have to think about saving money ever again. Here’s the truth, if you buy every available lottery ticket, you would have to get a food loan, utility loan, car gas loan, and a loan for every other expense you make daily.
The truth is: There’s only one way to earn money, save it, as much as you can.....

How to Become Rich

First, a Little Perspective

While many people dream of becoming rich, most never achieve this dream.
Of course, rich is a relative term with regard to financial wealth, as the average poor or middle class person today enjoys luxuries unknown to the wealthy people of ages past.
As I pointed out in my Hub entitled Views of Food Then and Now, throughout history starvation and famine have been the major cause of death throughout history but in recent years, as a result of our rising wealth, food has become so abundant that obesity is rapidly becoming a leading cause of death.
Compared to the wealth of Bill Gates, the average American is poor. However, if we compare the creature comforts enjoyed by the same average American of today to those enjoyed by George Washington, the richest man ever to hold the office of President of the U.S., it is George Washington who comes up short.

Money Can't Guarantee Happiness - But Neither Can Poverty

The term rich can also be applied to the accumulation of other things besides financial wealth.
Things like good health, close relationships with family or friends, good health, a rewarding career, enjoyable hobbies, etc. can also make people feel rich and well off.
Being rich does not necessarily mean a person is happy. The story of King Midas is a classic tale wealth and unhappiness as is George Eliot's classic Silas Marner in which the hero, Silas, finds happiness only after losing his horde of gold and taking in and raising an orphaned child.
The term poor little rich girl is a further examle of a person being both rich and unhappy as it describes a person born to great wealth who is also alone and friendless in the world.
However, before carrying this philosophical discussion too far, let us remember that we live in the twenty-first century of today and not the eighteenth century of George Washington and we need more money to acquire the creature comforts that are available today.
As to happiness, while it is true that we cannot buy happiness with money, we should not forget author Leo Rosten's observation that, Money can't buy happiness, but neither can poverty.

The Old Fashioned Way of Working and Saving is the Best Method

There are a number of ways to become rich and here are a few of the more common ones:
1 Inherit a fortune – for the most part this is a matter of luck in that you either have to be born into a family with a rich relative who will leave you their fortune or you have to encounter and befriend a wealthy person who is childless and decides to leave you their fortune. Both of these are long shots.
2 Win the Lottery – this is every sucker's dream, but frankly, the odds of meeting and befriending a childless stranger are probably greater than winning any lotteries.
As for the lottery run by my state (Arizona, and probably every other lottery in the world), I had a mathematician demonstrate to me once that your chances of winning the lottery by purchasing a ticket are statistically only slightly (very slightly) greater than your chances of finding a winning ticket on the ground that someone else brought and lost.
3 Be born with a talent in great demand – This one also depends upon luck but you do have more control and greater chances with this than with numbers 1 and 2 above. Inventory your talents to see what you have and what the market wants – athletes, singers, entertainers are currently hot commodities.
Then work very hard at developing your talent and you just might make that fortune.
While it may look easy, when you take time to study the background of the beautiful millionaire model or the the athlete making millions throwing a football, you will find that an incredible amount of time and effort went into reaching their present position and the stress of their present fame is usually more than most of us want to have to endure.
4 Grab an Opportunity and Run With it – Get a good education in a hot area, such as IT, web design, nano technology, etc.
Work hard to become a leader in the field and keep watching over your shoulder for the next opportunity in the field. Then, when the opportunity presents itself, throw all of your time, energy, and every cent you can get your hands to to start a company to produce the product or service.
If you guessed correctly and the product or service is just what the public wants NOW you can either go public and make a fortune on the sale of some of your stock or sell it for billions to a company like Google (a la You Tube) or Yahoo.
Of course your plan could bomb and you could find yourself with nothing but a pile of bills or, worse, fail because you were too early and have to endure the pain of seeing someone else make a fortune with the same ideas a few years later when the market is right.
5 Be Old Fashioned, Work and Save – This route is open to practically everyone and the younger you are the better. It involves working hard and saving.
In their book, The Millionaire Next Door: The Surprising Secrets of America's Wealthy, the typical American millionaire is described by authors Thomas Stanley and William Danko as a very ordinary person who has slowly and steadily accumulated wealth through work and savings.
Most of these millionaires live typical middle class lives with few outwardly displays of wealth. In fact the only thing that distinguishes them from their other middle class neighbors is the size of their bank accounts.
Most of these millionaires own their own business but they are traditional low tech businesses.
While their neighbors live off of credit and spend thousands each year on finance charges, these people save (earning interest) and pay with cash. Their homes are comfortable suburban tract homes, their cars are late model family type cars, their clothes are off the rack.
The author's point is that these people are no different than the vast middle class that makes up America other than they are more focused on their work and they save rather than borrow.
By middle age these people are usually very wealthy but their habits remain those of the middle class.
In fact when Stanley and Danko were writing their book they held a series of focus group sessions in fine hotels and invited people whose financial status put them in the millionaire class, and asked them to describe their lifestyle and how they made their fortunes.
In the room where the focus group was held they arranged for a table of free drinks and snacks that included fine wines, expensive mixed drinks, caviar and other expensive appetizers. For variety they also included some beer and traditional appetizers.
What surprised Stanley and Danko was that the beer and traditional appetizers disappeared fast while the wines and caviar type food and drink went untouched. The work and saving are habits that are developed and cultivated over a life time.
6 Retire a Millionaire – for a young person this is probably the easiest road to wealth, but they have to wait for it.
Simply open a Roth IRA account with a good Mutual Fund or other investment company when you get your first job at 16 or 17 (or later, but the longer you wait the less time you will have for the money to grow).
Arrange for your paycheck to be deposited to you checking account automatically and, at the same time, arrange for the mutual fund or investment company to automatically withdraw a fixed amount from your checking account each month, say $25, $40, $75 whatever you can afford. It may hurt for the first couple of months but then you will get used to living off of the lower amount (your take home pay minus the IRA deposit) and forget about it.
In time your income will go up and you can either leave your IRA withdrawal the same or increase it by part of the raise. Over the course of the next 40 – 50 years, the reinvested income from your deposits will grow to many times the amount that you are investing and when you retire you will not only have accumulated close to a million dollars or more but, after age 59 ½ you will be able to withdraw it tax free.

10 Tips On How To Get Rich Fast

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could get rich tomorrow? What would you do with all that money? Well believe it or not it can be done. Now I didn’t say it would be easy I just said you could do it. Here are 10 tips on how to get rich fast.
1. Invest - Start young. In fact start while you are in elementary school, kindergarten is even better. It’s the beauty of compound interest and over time your money will grow into a nice nest egg. Okay if you are reading this you are probably too old to start in elementary school but you can get your kids hooked. As for you the best plan of defense is to invest 50% of your salary in a high risk market fund or the penny stock market. You’ve got a 50-50 chance. You’ll either make a million or be broke in 90 days.
2. Marry Rich - Now how difficult can this be? All you need to do is find someone who has loads of money and marry them. Okay I didn’t say you’d be happy just rich. Perhaps not a solution for most of us but it apparently works for a few.
3. Win The Lottery - Ya ya I know the odds of getting struck by lightening are better than the odds of winning the lottery but you can’t win if you don’t try and it’s one of the few ways I know of that you can get rich fast.
4. Rich Parents - If you come from a wealthy family then you are half way there. All you have to do is stay in their good books and convince mom and dad to not spend their money and leave it to you when they pass. After all why should your parents get to enjoy the wealth they reaped?
5. Get An Education - Go to school for lots of years, accumulate plenty of debt, and choose a career that pays big bucks. After about 10 years in your profession you should be rolling in the dough and you might even be filthy rich before you get old
6. Become A Star - Heck if Jennifer Aniston or Nicolas Cage can do it why can’t you. A couple of acting lessons and you should be set. All you need to do is head to Hollywood and strike it big. One good movie and you’ll be set for life.
7. Invest In Real Estate - Buy high sell low – whoops I think I got that backwards. Buy low, wait 10 years, 20 years, maybe even 30 years but inflation will have your investment growing by leaps and bounds and you could be filthy rich especially if you bought in an up and coming city while house prices were still low. Now if you bought in Hicksville USA you may have a problem. It might take more than your lifetime to see any dramatic increases. Oh well you can leave it to your kids who can leave it to their kids and in another 100 years or so someone’s going to be sitting pretty.
8. The Internet Way - Heck where have you been. A quick search on the Web will reveal plenty of sites that will teach you how to make $50,000 a day. Now I think most of us could live quite comfortably on that don’t you? All you need to do is part with about $500 and they’ll tell you the secrets of wealth in one page or less. If the first one doesn’t do it for you perhaps you might want to try a few more. Oh wait a minute. Perhaps what you need to do is set up one of these sights, then you’ll be the one getting rich off the other poor fools that part with their $500.
9. Bank Robbery - Okay highly illegal and could land you a lifetime in the slammer but desperate needs require desperate measures. After all if you get caught you might not be rich but you’ll have free room and board for the rest of your life and then you could write a book about what not to do when robbing a bank and well see you could get rich from your book. And even better, you’ll stay rich because there is really no place to spend it while in jail.
10. High Risk Work - Take on those high risk jobs no one else wants. You know counselor in Iraq, bean counter in Afghanistan, Oil tycoon in Iran. But hey if you live through it you’ll be rolling in the dough. What does it matter that 99% never live through it. You’ve got a 1% chance and when it comes to getting rich those are pretty good odds.
Sure most of these ideas are pretty off the wall but if getting rich fast was easy wouldn’t we all be rich? Then what fun would there be in that? We’d all have too much money and probably be bored to tears. So why not aim for better life with good friends, love, happiness, and enough money to live comfortably but not so much that you stop dreaming about what you would do if you were rich.

7 Reasons to Be Happy

“Being happy doesn’t mean that everything is perfect. It means you’ve decided to look beyond the imperfections.” -Unknown
Even though I couldn’t possibly care less about oil-based raincoats, I listened to him talk for about 15 minutes one rainy morning last week.
This little guy, with his colorful button-down shirt and funny-looking hat makes my day most mornings. He works at the 7-11 where I get my coffee. And he always seems happy.
At first I thought he was just putting on a good face, making the best of a tough situation. After all, he couldn’t possibly enjoy working at a convenience store, right? Then I realized I was missing the biggest part of his appeal: he does enjoy his job, and that’s why he seems so happy—because he is.
Man that’s awesome. I aim to be like him.
My life doesn’t always look exactly like I want it to. I spend many days writing alone in my living room, when I’d rather work from a beachside office space I share with friends. I drive a beat-up old Toyota, when I’d far prefer something that doesn’t have roll-up windows or a cassette player.
But the world doesn’t change all that much if I have more money, a different space, a better job, or a nicer car. The wrapping paper is different, but the gift inside stays the same.
The way I feel about myself; how much I open myself to new people and experiences; how often I choose to smile simply because it feels good. None of these things depend on my life situation. Colorful shirt guy knows that. I suspect he knows these things, too:
1. Enjoying the present moment is a habit that takes practice. If you always look toward tomorrow for happiness, odds are you will do the same when you attain what you’ve been dreaming of. As strange it sounds, the ability to appreciate what’s in front of you has nothing to do with what you actually have. It’s more about how you measure the good things in your life at any given time.
Practice wanting what you have and it will feel even sweeter when you eventually have what you want. Look around—what’s in front of you that can enjoy?
2. Finding reasons to be happy now can benefit your future. Dr. Dacher Keltner of the University of California claims she can predict a person’s future by judging the strength of their smile. Researchers examined yearbook photos of 111 female students taken between 1958 and 1960. Subsequent tests revealed that the women who expressed more positive emotion in those photos became more mentally focused, had more successful marriages, and enjoyed a greater sense of well-being.
From the article:
“While positive emotion tends to broaden thought, negative emotion tends to narrow it and hold back development….The findings of Dr Keltner and his colleagues, published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, are among the first to show that differences in the extent to which people express emotion may be stable throughout their lives and dictate personal and social success.”
3. Tuning into joy can improve your health, something that affords you many possibilities in life. Something that most people take for granted until it’s compromised.
Christopher Peterson, Ph.D of the University of Michigan—who has studied optimism’s link to health for over 20 years—shows optimistic people have a stronger immune system than their negative counterparts. This may be due to their tendency to take better care of themselves. Choose to be happy now and you’ll have more days of good health to enjoy.
4. Consistent, long-term happiness depends on your ability to notice and appreciate the details; you can hone that skill right now. Once you get everything you want, you will still be subject to life’s highs and lows. If you haven’t learned to enjoy the little things, your well-being will parallel your life’s circumstances. Every time something goes wrong, you’ll feel deeply unhappy (as opposed to disappointed but determined to make the best of things).
Think about the things that fill you with the most joy—spending time with your pets, listening to the rain, and running on the beach, for example. Focus on those things right now, and let them brighten your day. That way, no matter what changes, you’ll have a variety of simple pleasures to help you through.
5. Every day is a new opportunity to be better than yesterday; that pursuit can increase your self esteem and, accordingly, your happiness. I used to be obsessed with being perfect. If I wasn’t the best at something, I couldn’t sleep at night. Becoming great never felt as good as I imagined it would because there was always room to be better. I was constantly dissatisfied and disappointed in myself.
I now look at the things I do as opportunities to get better from one day to the next. It’s more satisfying to set and meet an attainable goal, like focusing better and writing an extra article tomorrow, than it is to obsess about perfection, stressing because I’m not a world-famous author.
By focusing on small improvements and mini-goals, you’ll naturally move yourself toward your larger dreams. And you’ll respect the way you’re doing things.
6. You can be who you want to be right now, no matter what your situation looks like. You may think life needs to change dramatically for you to be the person you want to be. That you can’t be giving unless you make more money. Or you can’t be adventurous until you sell your house. The truth is you can be those things at any point in time.
So you don’t have money to share. Be generous with your compassion, and listen when your friends have problems. So your house hasn’t sold, pinning you in one place. Create adventure in your day by trying new things and introducing yourself to new people.
You never know when your nows will run out—so ask yourself, “How can I be that person I want to be in this moment?”
7. Finding joy in the present moment—no matter how inadequate it may seem—makes a difference in other people’s lives. Though we all have different lists of dreams and goals, for most of us this is at the forefront : the possibility of living a meaningful life that affects other people for the better.
Happiness is a moment-to-moment choice, one that many have a hard time making. Other people will notice if you make that choice. And you will motivate them to do the same. As the research above indicates, this motivation has a substantial impact on their health and future happiness.
I know this isn’t your usual reasons-to-be-happy post. It didn’t start or end with “count your blessings” and I didn’t delve into your relationships or good fortune. There’s a very good reason for that.
I don’t think happiness is so much about what you have. What you have changes; your “blessings” evolve. Happiness is about how you interpret what’s in front of you. How proud you are of the way you live your life. How willing you are to enjoy simple pleasures, even if things aren’t perfect.
Though I have’t always done this well, today I choose to focus on the good—both in the world and myself—to feel happy right now. How will you tune into happiness today?

9 Tips in Life that Lead to Happiness

Are you truly happy? Do you even know what it means to be happy and what it takes to achieve happiness? These are important questions for anyone who is seeking happiness to ask themselves. I live my life to maintain my own happiness while trying my best to not cause unhappiness to anyone else. If you want to be happy you need to understand that you can be happy and that you should be happy. Many people make the mistake of believing that they don’t deserve happiness and accept their unhappy state as their destiny. The truth of the matter is that happiness, like anything else in life, needs to be nurtured. The following are a few tips that I follow to create happiness in my life.
  1. Understand what it is that will make you happy. Everyone has unique requirements for attaining happiness and what makes one person happy may be very different from what makes someone else happy. Revel in your individuality and do not worry about whether or not your desires are comparable to those of your peers.
  2. Make a plan for attaining goals that you believe will make you happy. Your mood will very likely increase as your pursue your goal because you will feel better about yourself for going after something you value.
  3. Surround yourself with happy people. It is easy to begin to think negatively when you are surrounded by people who think that way. Conversely, if you are around people who are happy their emotional state will be infectious.
  4. When something goes wrong try to figure out a solution instead of wallowing in self pity. Truly happy people don’t allow set backs to affect their mood because they know that with a little thought they can turn the circumstances back to their favor.
  5. Spend a few minutes each day thinking about the things that make you happy. These few minutes will give you the opportunity to focus on the positive things in your life and will lead you to continued happiness.
  6. It’s also important to take some time each day to do something nice for yourself. Whether you treat yourself to lunch, take a long, relaxing bath or simply spend a few extra minutes on your appearance you will be subconsciously putting yourself in a better mood.
  7. Finding the humor in situations can also lead to happiness. While there are times that require you to be serious, when it is appropriate, find a way to make light of a situation that would otherwise make you unhappy.
  8. Maintaining your health is another way to achieve happiness. Being overweight or not eating nutritious foods can have a negative effect on your mood. Additionally, exercise has been known to release endorphins that give you a feeling of happiness.
  9. Finally, it is important to understand that you deserve happiness. Those who believe that they are not worthy of happiness may subconsciously sabotage their efforts to achieve happiness. If necessary, tell yourself each day that you deserve to be happy and remind yourself what steps you will take to achieve the happiness you desire.
Happiness is hard to define but most people are aware of whether they are happy or not. Many people believe that happiness is a form of luck and that some people are destined to be happy while others are destined to be unhappy. I try to incorporate the tips above into my life and have had great success in achieving happiness. The tips in this article are small but meaningful steps that you can take each day to lead you to true happiness.

Tips for Happiness in Daily Life

Daily life can be made happier. It is a matter of choice. It is our attitude that makes us feel happy or unhappy. It is true, we meet all kinds of situations during the day, and some of them may not be conductive to happiness. We can choose to keep thinking about the unhappy events, and we can choose to refuse to think about them, and instead, relish the happy moments. All of us constantly go through various situations and circumstances, but we do not have to let them influence our reactions and feelings.
If we let outer events influence our moods, we become their slaves. We lose our freedom. We let our happiness be determined by outer forces. On the other hand, we can free ourselves from outer influences. We can choose to be happy, and we can do a lot to add happiness to our lives.
What is happiness? It is a feeling of inner peace and satisfaction. It is usually experienced when there are no worries, fears or obsessing thoughts, and this usually happens, when we do something we love to do or when we get, win, gain or achieve something that we value. It seems to be the outcome of positive events, but it actually comes from the inside, triggered by outer events.
For most people, happiness seems fleeting and temporary, because they allow external circumstances to affect it. One of the best ways to keep it, is by gaining inner peace through daily meditation. As the mind becomes more peaceful, it becomes easier to choose the happiness habit.
Here are a few tips for increasing happiness in daily life:
1) Endeavor to change the way you look at things. Always look at the bright side. The mind may drag you to think about negativity and difficulties. Don't let it. Look at the good and positive side of every situation.
2) Think of solutions, not problems.
3) Listen to relaxing, uplifting music.
4) Watch funny comedies that make you laugh.
5) Each day, devote some time to reading a few pages of an inspiring book or article.
6) Watch your thoughts. Whenever you catch yourself thinking negative thoughts, start thinking of pleasant things.
7) Always look at what you have done and not at what you haven't.

Sometimes you may begin the day with the desire to accomplish several objectives. At the end of the day you might feel frustrated and unhappy, because you haven't been able to do all of those things.
Look at what you have done, not at what you have not been able to do. You may have accomplished a lot during the day, and yet you let yourself become frustrated, because of some small things that you did not accomplish. You have spent all day successfully carrying out many plans, and instead of feeling happy and satisfied, you look at what was not accomplished and feel unhappy. It is unfair toward yourself.
8) Each day do something good for yourself. It can be something small, such buying a book, eating something you love, watching you favorite program on TV, going to a movie, or just having a stroll on the beach.
9) Each day do at least one act to make others happy. This can be a kind word, helping your colleagues, stopping your car at the crossroad to let people cross, giving your seat in a bus to someone else, or giving a small present to someone you love. The possibilities are infinite. When you make someone happy, you become happy, and then people try to make you happy.
10) Always expect happiness.
11) Do not envy people who are happy. On the contrary, be happy for their happiness.
12) Associate with happy people, and try to learn from them to be happy. Remember, happiness is contagious.
13) Do your best to stay detached, when things do not proceed as intended and desired. Detachment will help you stay calm and control your moods and reactions. Detachment is not indifference. It is the acceptance of the good and the bad and staying balanced. Detachment has much to do with inner peace, and inner peace is conductive to happiness.
14) Smile more often.

$50,000 Prize Giveaway – Absolutely Serious, No Joke

October 13, 2011

I recently received an email from SiteSell, the company behind Site Build It or SBI, the product I use to research and build profitable niche websites announcing a mind blowing $50,000 prize giveaway for doing some simple research on the Internet.
SiteSell has been very generous to me over the years, and as far as I can remember, this is the biggest prize money I have experienced them giving away. Needless to say that I am going to participate in the contest.
If you haven’t heard about Site Build It, it is the single best and most comprehensive tool I know off that helps you research, plan, build, market and monetize a niche website. It is the only, all in one comprehensive tool you will ever need.  And of all the products that I am constantly pitched to try out and review, I cannot say there is anything out there that even compares.
I used SBI to build my first ever profitable niche website, and still use it today now that I have 16 profitable niche websites and more in the works.  They are the single biggest enabler of my success online and responsible for most of the passive and residual income that I generate on the internet that has allowed me to live a financially abundant life for years all on my own terms.
But enough about my relationship with SiteSell, here is how YOU can win the $50,000 prize giveaway straight from the horse’s mouth:
—
If you can find documented proof that another product, or collection of information and tools, delivers everything that SBI! does (or more), at the price of SBI! (or less) AND that product documents success to the depth that SBI! does, we will pay you $50,000.
Scour the Web in search of another product like SBI!, one that claims to enable anyone to create Web sites that build profitable businesses. These products may themselves be “all-in-one.”
Or perhaps they offer a free webinar that “upsells” other tools to execute the webinar strategies.
Or maybe they assemble an “SBI!-equivalent” of WordPress, plug-ins, additional software, information sources, guidance hosting, and so on.
Price it all out and then compare the success rates. What folks will find it just how much time and money it really takes to “do WordPress” if your goal is e-business success.
However a “competitor” operates, if it’s offered on the Web as an e-business solution, it’s fair game for “Match It!.”

If you find a company or a service that offers comparable tools and success rates at a price lower than SBI!, post it right on our SiteSell Facebook Wall…
—
You can read more about the contest and the rules on SiteSell’s Facebook Fan Page where the contest was first announced, followed by the newsletter release.

SiteSell vs. Blogging

There is a lot of debate over whether one should blog or build a website as a business.  I have repeatedly mentioned this in the past, and firmly believe that a blog in and of itself is not a business, neither is blogging.  A blog can certainly supplement and assist an underlying business such as providing a specific service or selling a product, but blogging as a business rarely works and is not the most effective in my opinion.
Sitesell’s full blown article on blogging vs. building is the most comprehensive perspective I have read on this topic, which further reinforces where I stand on this debate. And if that article doesn’t do it for you, read what countless SBI users have to say about this debate first hand.

A Blog Won’t Generate Passive Income for You

What happens to your blog when you stop blogging? Can you expect to sustain the same traffic and income levels?  Likely not.  If you think you are making passive income blogging you are highly mistaken.
A blog can support your business, passive or active, but it in of itself is not a passive business model. SiteSell explains this in further detail and demonstrates how you can create a passive business online.

The $50,000 Prize Giveaway Contest

I am really excited about this contest because not only are we talking some serious change, but also because one of the best companies is hosting it.  SiteSell has been around for years now and recently, because of all the newer turnkey tools that have emerged including WordPress, there has been chatter about whether Site Build It is dead.
I think it’s nuts to even question that personally. I believe this contest will put all doubts to rest and once again prove that Site Build It was and still is the single best tool out there to build a profitable business online.
If you happen to spend some time reading SiteSell’s material while participating in the contest and feel that this tool can help you and are interested in purchasing it, feel free to contact their customer support or ask me directly. I’d be happy to use a desktop sharing program and show you what it looks like and how I use it personally.
As for now, I am going to begin researching online and trying my chance at the $50,000 prize giveaway.
Readers: Are you going to participate in the $50,000 prize giveaway challenge? What are your views on blogging vs. building a website as a business model? You may be blogging as a hobby or outlet like many do, but are you ok spending your time doing so without really building a long term business or asset?  Do you have any questions about SiteSell that I can answer?
Note: I have been a very happy and successful Site Build It! user for years. I am also affiliated with the company and am paid a commission on each sale. If you are interested in this product, I’d appreciate you using my affiliate link.  I’d be happy to help you with any questions before, during or after your purchase.

Get a lot of Wealth of Internet Entrepreneurs

January 21, 2011

Sunil contacted me asking if he could apply to become a columnist on Entrepreneurs-Journey. I asked him what are the highlights of his “career” as an entrepreneur so I could be confident in his credibility and he had stories to tell that we could all learn from.
It turns out Sunil has done a few things. As you will see in this introductory article, he has plenty of experiences making money in different ways. He only touches on them briefly in this article, but rest assured I will ask him to break down the details of each success he has had so we can learn from his case studies in future articles.
For now, Sunil answers the question of why leave a well paid corporate job to become an online entrepreneur…
My name is Sunil and the title of this blog post refers to me. I have been following Yaro for over a year now and feel privileged to be allowed to write for his blog. Many of you may know me or have heard from me through comments on this blog.
I will be discussing what I have accomplished as an entrepreneur over the years, what I have learned in that time as well as why I pursued “side gigs” despite having a successful career in a Fortune 100 company that paid well in the six figure range.
Before I get into what I have done and why I know what I know, here is a brief background on myself:

My Background

The name is Indian, but I was born in South East Asia (just above Yaro’s homeland) in an upper middle class family of entrepreneurs. My Mom and Dad are not formally educated, but they self-taught how to practice business.
I’m still not sure if it was lack of education, fate, or just pure bad luck, but my Mom and Dad lost it all, gained some back, lost some more and finally stabilized at a much lower level than where they had built themselves up to. The biggest of all losses was my Mom’s passing away when I was only 10. I have seen and been through it all.
I am first generation high school, college and post graduate in my family’s lineage. English is my fourth of five tongues. Professionally, I am a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), may also be called a Chartered Accountant (CA) on your side of the globe, a Finance Charter-holder and a Certified Financial Planner.
I attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, a top ten business program year-in year-out and love to pretend to brag about it. No matter where I am or what I am doing, my heart still bleeds Maize and Blue on Fall Football Saturdays (GO BLUE!).
Right out of Graduate School, I started my career with one of the big four accounting firms in their M&A (Mergers and Acquisitions) practice. I was trading real heavy hours for heavy dollars, and led a very mobile, demanding and by choice, a pressure packed lifestyle.
I travelled all over the world wherever business deals were happening, gained tremendous experience and exposure to the Corporate landscape, and learned invaluable life lessons in my career. By the way, I am also the first in my family’s lineage to work for a paycheck.
Fast forward a few years, I am now living in the United States of America as a naturalized citizen. If you are interested in learning more about my roller coaster life, you can read About Me further on my Blog.

What Have I Done And Why Do I Know What I Know?

I understand my profession. I understand numbers. I understand personal finance. I understand business entity establishment. I understand taxes inside out. I understand wealth building, management, preservation, protection and estate planning. I use my knowledge to my advantage in all I do. I understand entrepreneurship. I understand business.
Without getting into the painful details behind the “how” and in an effort not to go off the road, below are just a few tidbits summarizing how I have put the knowledge learned to use.
Stock Market
In my Junior year in college, I started day trading and grew a $2,000 pot to over $40,000 thanks to a big one-hit wonder. I got carried away and started trading on margin only to lose all $40,000 and then some more out of pocket. This hurt big time.
Outside of that terrible experience when money was most scarce for me, I haven’t gambled much in the market. I have been satisfied with my 8-12% return over the last few years, thanks to a hedge fund that kept my overall return afloat when the market turned sour in the recent past.
I am not a guru in stock trading. In fact I don’t care to be. I don’t mind paying someone 2% of my earnings if that someone is able to generate 12% for me when the best I can do on my own is 8%. The arbitrage simply works.
That said, I have some of my stock portfolio in hedge funds managed by folks I know (I know you are thinking Madoff at this point), and most in vehicles that are on auto-pilot. A small part of my portfolio is purely in speculative plays, but I believe in value investing over time.
I believe in maxing out tax advantageous vehicles like the 401(k) and Roth IRA, and dollar cost investing over time in no to low load mutual funds, including index funds.
Where do I get the money to invest in the markets? From various sources of income that I have established over the years, including the paycheck I receive from my employer.
Real Estate
After college, I studied all aspects of real estate investing for close to a year before I finally bought my first property. I bought it with no money down and a 5% interest rate, thanks to market conditions, a solid, stable cash flow from my job and an excellent FICO score.
I worked out a similar deal the next go around, and the snowball started rolling from there. The zero down days ended shortly, but I was still able to purchase significantly undervalued properties with low down payments and great interest rates, taking into account the option of owner financing (having the seller finance my purchase rather than taking a loan from a bank).
The beauty of real estate is your ability to leverage. Unlike the stock market, where you can leverage 50% at best (also called trading on margin), in real estate you can start controlling a property with as little as 5% of its market value. In “normal” market conditions, 20% is the norm. In real good times like when I started, zero down was not unheard of either.
Because investing in real property doesn’t demand too much out of your pocket, you can utilize your cash in several investments and amplify your cash flow, the money left from rent payments collected after subtracting your mortgage, taxes, association fees, insurance and all other operating expenses.
Real estate especially gets real fun after you pay off one property. That’s because you can take the cash flow from it and expedite the pay-off of another. The more you do this, the more you can parlay the growth of your real estate empire. Paid off properties also have equity that you can tap into when in need.
Real estate is also tangible, something you can see, touch, feel, smell, and taste. The tangible nature of real estate is a huge psychological factor that caters to certain personalities.
For example, my dad wouldn’t touch stocks because he doesn’t understand them. Well, he does a bit, but at the end of the day it is like owning toilet paper or digital currency to him, which rightfully so it is (just with some value attached). On the other hand, he would be all over purchasing real estate as an investment.
Finally, real estate is a hedge against inflation. When I evaluate my real estate portfolio, I give some consideration to the hedge factor as well.
Where do I get the money to invest in real estate? The same places as above. I am proud of and thankful for my success in real estate. I’m no Donald Trump by any means, but I do trump over my own little real estate empire.
Small Business
After having established myself in real estate, I decided to invest in a small business in my community. Ironically, I did not purchase the underlying real estate (which is a risk I was willing to live with). The business however is doing very well today.
I purchased an undervalued business which I knew I could turn around based on a review of the business operations, researching similar businesses in nearby areas, as well as digging deeper into the financials.
Buying an underperforming business at a price well under market is similar to real estate or even buying and selling websites in many ways. Although I knew I would be working in (not on) the business to some extent, the work turned out to be more than I anticipated, at least initially.
Investment in small businesses require knowledge of transactions and the related aspects such as business valuation, due diligence, deal structuring / financing, contracts, etc. I would never recommend this for a novice, but it’s an endeavor well worth getting into providing one has the knowledge, risk appetite, time and resources.
Of all my investments and purchases so far, I’d say this one taught me the most, a lot the hard way, involving significant outflow of cash from my pocket. Yup, I did pay for on the job training. For example, during due diligence I did not check the condition certain equipment which broke on me within a couple months (big mistake!). I had to outlay nearly $30,000 just to replace these.
But hey, not every day is a sunny day now is it? Despite revenues down a good chunk recently due to weak consumption, the business has been a profitable endeavor overall and currently running well with very minimal involvement from me, thanks to a great management team.
Where did I get the money to buy a business? The same avenues as above. It also helps that I arranged seller financing, which meant I didn’t have to take a loan from the bank.
E-Commerce
Outside of hobby sites, which often involved self proclaimed greatness (including modeling pictures of me showing off my chiseled body), my first for-profit initiative online was the establishment of an e-commerce website. Not just any e-comm website, but one that had a unique twist that no one at the time was offering. I still don’t think anyone is.
Two years later, the website was doing very well, with a good number of recurring members. The website generated a little over $60,000 a year in profits, not an earth-shattering amount at all, but was growing at a very fast trajectory.
Because of a variety of reasons, two of which were poor strategic planning and technology issues (I am NOT a techie at all), there were some hard lessons learned in this process as well, including tarnished reputation due to not being able to fulfill certain customer orders.
I consider this business endeavor as an overall success however. Not so much because of the chump change we made (my distribution partner and I), but more so because of the invaluable lessons learned in the process. Not to mention the quarter million dollar sale of the business as our exit.
Why did we decide to sell the business? We sold it because of several difficulties I referred to, which were mostly a result of growing faster than we could keep up. Yes, growing too fast is not always good, especially when unplanned for.
Most importantly however, we had an unsolicited buyer, and because of this we made the timing right in our minds to wash our hands off it. It was an unplanned, but profitable exit strategy for us. I am still asked today why I sold such a unique concept, and I still claim that any time is a good time when it just makes sense.
As hard as it was initially, I try not to dwell too much on the past, or think of the “should have”, “could have” and “what if”. I do however conduct a post mortem and ensure I learn as much as possible from endeavors I get rid of, especially the failures. The way I see it, life is too long and there will be many more opportunities to mess around with another idea.
Where did I get the money to start this venture? Same as above. Establishing this website cost me less than $2,000 and a ton of man hours, headaches and heart burns to go with it. I plan on discussing this project in detail from end-to-end in my next blog post.

Niche Content Websites

On to my favorite endeavor of all and one that is currently my bread and butter. When I was looking to start a side gig that could be worked on remotely from anywhere, I was exposed to a program that preached creating a content website around a topic I am passionate about.
Because I was busy with other initiatives but still wanted to test this opportunity out, I somehow enticed my wife to get into it. Little did she know what she was very reluctantly getting into.
I handled everything from a technical perspective of course (website, SEO and marketing) while she focused on web content. We worked at it for over 11 months and saw not a penny in profits.
But just a bit over 24 months today, the website is running very well on auto pilot generating several thousand dollars, and the trajectory still points upward as it is nowhere near its full potential.
Seeing the success of this venture, I established several other niche content websites in other disciplines. I can’t say that I was motivated by the topics, but I was sure motivated by the process.
There are two kinds of people, ones that are interested in the product offering and others who are interested and motivated by the process. I have been in both shoes, and either has worked well for me.
I kept replicating the model, often with help from freelancers, until I had established a healthy portfolio of websites generating income on auto pilot month after month. The next step was to team up with other entrepreneurs to build more niche websites.
This allowed me the opportunity to coach and develop others who were interested in the concept and process but simply didn’t possess the “know how”. I contributed from a technical aspect while they focused on content much like my wife.
The irony behind this is that I am no techie at all. But the tools I use and the knowledge and experience I have gained over the years definitely makes me a perceived expert.
Where did I get the money to establish a bunch of niche websites from? Again, same as above. But that said, one niche content website costs me under $100 to establish, providing I create it myself from scratch to finish. You can hire freelancers and VAs to help you out like I do if you have some disposable cash to invest.
I discuss niche content websites heavily on my blog, and plan on continuing to talk about it in depth going forward, dissecting the various components involved in it and some step-by-step procedures on how to execute each.

Consulting

I don’t really know when I first became a consultant. It was all unplanned. Throughout the years, folks I know and around me have come to know about the various ventures I’ve been involved in.
Due to curiosity and other reasons, I am asked all kinds of things in day–to-day interaction. In fact, it is because of this that I started my blog (discussed below). But long story short, I have ended up consulting several individuals, and more recently even small businesses on various internet entrepreneurship matters.
My most recent gig was for a small, less than $10M company based out of the West Coast of the USA. I was brought in to consult on SEO and E-Commerce re-engineering, whatever that means. Look at the irony in the oxymoron of a non-techie IT consultant. The world has really gone mad.
I hardly take any consulting gigs now because my effective hourly wage rate is much more that what most people can afford to pay me. In other words, I am better of spending an hour of my time on my business, rather than working for a dollar figure. My blog is the best avenue I have for making the most mass impact with my knowledge and experience without sacrificing all my time.
I don’t consider consulting anywhere near my core income producing activities. I consider it trading hours for dollars, just like a job, although this one involving large dollars.
I have not solicited one client to date and don’t plan on it either. That said, I do have a section on my blog discussing the consulting services I offer. I end up referring most of it out to my personal network. If there is something worthwhile that comes across my desk, I will definitely consider it.
Where did I get the money to start this gig? Nowhere. I didn’t need any. But without all of the preceding ventures above, consulting would not have been possible. When it rains, it pours. That is not only a theoretical saying. It is a practical truth that I have seen manifest repeatedly in my lifetime.

The Extra Money Blog

So finally after much nagging (external causes) and dragging (internal causes), in late July 2010 I launched my Capstone Project, The Extra Money Blog.
WordPress was (and still is) completely new to me, and boy am I challenged with so much! For a blog that looks as simple as mine, I have already spent a ton of hours on the design. Yes you can laugh.
Although this latest endeavor is the newest to me, I am dedicated to giving it my all. If I weren’t, I wouldn’t be spending hours writing this post and polishing it up for Yaro on a beautiful weekend.
I mean why would I care otherwise? I hope to continue to learn the ropes from a technical perspective, and am looking forward to all your tips and suggestions, and definitely technical intervention.
After establishing the blog a bit and after I am comfortable with the basics of WordPress, I do plan on outsourcing a complete makeover to someone who actually knows what they are doing.
Where did I get the money to start this project? It doesn’t matter where. I spent $80 bucks and bought myself the Thesis WordPress Theme and started slaving away at it.
Overall take away: Starting a side gig doesn’t have to cost you your arm. Figure out what is it that you want to do and Just Do It! (Copyright & Trademark: Nike, Inc.) Where there is a will, there is a way. You will find a way to find the dollars, but you must first overcome the inertia to get started.

Why Did I Pursue Entrepreneurship on the Side?

Now for the burning question of the moment . . . Drum-Roll . . . Why?
What was I thinking while sitting on that cushy leather recliner looking out to the river from my 48th floor downtown office window? Quite a bit actually, none of which was about my career and my company. I was thinking about Abundance, Freedom and Flexibility. I was thinking about lifestyle design and engineering (Thanks T Ferriss).
Was I not happy with my career? Of course I was. In fact I was very happy. But what’s the fun in complacency? Why not diversify beyond my current realm of possibilities? We all know anything can happen at any time. There is just too much uncertainty surrounding us. Why not hedge against it? What about taking matters and control into my own hands? What about dedication to a greater cause? What about X, Y and Z?
There must have been a million and two reasons that had crossed my mind, but I want to focus on just a handful of reasons here to get my point across. The reasons revolve around financial abundance, freedom and flexibility, the three key concepts around which my blog is based.
It is a fact that many people do not enjoy what they do for a living. It is also a fact that out of those many, most hate their jobs. It is a fact that retirement is something many look forward to. It is also a fact that many wished they could retire early, or enjoy a better retirement lifestyle when they get there.
As of late, the concepts of semi-retirements or lifestyle design have also emerged. Human beings are naturally lazy, and people long for easier day-to-day jobs or careers rather than toiling their life away, whether as unhealthy, round-shaped, bald and unhappy I-bankers or lawyers who self console themselves as being happy and satisfied in life. What life they talk about I wonder sometimes?
There are also those that want to “live like no other, so they can give like no other”. The motivations are countless, as are the options. Taking care of family members in need, to be there for friends, to not miss a birthday party or event whether night or day, weekday or weekend.
To be able to do all that requires financial abundance, with the appropriate balance of freedom and flexibility. That is precisely what “side gigging” has allowed me and many others to do, particularly side gigs that are based on the internet platform as they are as mobile and flexible as they come.
When you have alternate sources of income, you have a solid safety blanket that comes with more peace of mind, less financial stress and as a result you perform better in all other aspects of your life. You can position yourself to walk away from your job at any time, or say no to a demanding one that you don’t want to undertake.
The key message here is that you have options. You have a level of freedom and flexibility to live the kind of life you want, or one that is a bit closer to your ideal lifestyle rather than one that is predetermined for you by whosoever writes your bi-weekly paycheck.
I know a gal who because of having established passive side incomes streams has walked away from high paying but high stress career to settle into a 30 hour a week career paying $65,000 plus healthcare benefits, and spend the rest of her time on her fitness, teaching Yoga at night and spending more time with the family.
I know a guy who doesn’t think twice before taking a month or two off from his job without pay to take extended vacations or stay-cations with his family because he has financial abundance thanks to his side gigs. The lost salary simply doesn’t matter enough anymore at that point. Now of course you need an employer who can put up with that, but you get the point.
I know a full-time internet based freelancer who works when convenient for him, and has been able to fit his business plan around his life plan, something everyone should, but don’t or can’t do for various reasons. He has a very flexible and mobile lifestyle because he can work from anywhere he wants. All he needs is his laptop and internet connection. Did it happen overnight for him? No. He side gigged for a while to build his client base before firing his employer, or prison I should say.
I know an older couple who have established enough income producing assets such as small businesses, real estate and a huge dividend portfolio thanks to several successful side gigs over the years to feed the next four generations of their lineage.

Business And Travel

With the advancement in technology today, the automated tools we have at our disposal and gobs of free information available online at our finger tips, starting a business today is easier than it has ever been in the past.
This is particularly true for an internet based business model, which is great for those who are more risk averse. It is also the best business model to pursue on the side in my opinion for those who travel for a living.
An internet-based business can be mobile, flexible and automated, not to mention have a very attractive risk/reward ratio. The cost to get started is very minimal, with tremendous upside and scale-ability. All you have to lose is your time and effort. But even if you do, trust me, you will end up with invaluable lifelong lessons that will make your investment well worth it.
In fact my personal journey on the internet started because I was traveling heavily in my career. There was very little predictability in my life in terms of where I was going to be on a given day and time.
Because of this, it became very difficult to pursue real estate and small business investing further. I missed out on several bargains because I was not in town to make the offer at the right time, or miss an inspection appointment, or one of several reasons that required my physical presence.
Thanks to the internet and the technological advancements today, I was able to find a niche I succeeded in. I feel blessed, and extremely fortunate to be living in a time where I am able to leverage what’s available to benefit me in the way I want it to.
And finally after having taken you through several narrow alleys around the world and giving you a hundred and one different reasons, I am tempted to say that this is un- precisely why a successful corporate professional making a healthy six figure salary resorted to the internet.
If Yaro lets me come back, in my next post I want to present a case study of my e-commerce website, from idea or concept stages, to research, creation, establishment, growth, all the way to the exit – the quarter million dollar sale of the business. I will also discuss post mortem results by sharing lessons learned from the venture.
I look forward to interacting with everyone and engaging in mutually beneficial knowledge sharing.

Get a lot of Profit by the Internet

It looks like the owners of TheInternetProfitHouse.com haven’t been paying to attention to the new FTC regulations. A quick look at their website reveals many violations of new and old guidelines put forth by the Federal Trade Commission, not mention a whole host of other shady practices.
These one page Google Kit type websites have been plaguing the Internet for close to a year now. They’ve made use of the latest tools in online deception, including billing fraud, and despite prevalent legal threats are showing no signs of slowing down.
I found out about The Internet Profit House by visiting a site called internet-news-daily.com, which featured an article on Mary Steadman and her success working from home with Google. The article described how all Mary does is post links on Google which earn her $25 per link.
The article closes with a link to TheInternetProfitHouse.com claiming that you can get started for just one buck in shipping and handling fees. This feel good story has been responsible for convincing hundreds of thousands of people into signing up for one of these kits; sadly the entire thing is one big fraud.
If you scroll past the comments on the article, which are all completely fabricated, you’ll get to the disclaimers for internet-news-daily.com. Curiously, this section is longer than the entire article itself and reveals some very interesting things about Mary Steadman and internet news daily.
The reasons for the massive legal protection:
  1. This is not a real newspaper.
  2. They are completely misrepresenting the opportunity.
  3. The testimonial is bogus and is not a real representation of earnings.
  4. They are using companies’ trademarks without their knowledge or consent.
This is just what’s wrong with the site linking to TheInternetProfitHouse.com; when you get to the actual sign-up page you’re greeted with even more red flags. Let’s take a look.
Here’s a list of infractions found on The Internet Profit House:
  1. Another misrepresentation of popular trademarks which have no association with the product.
  2. Exaggerated and unsubstantiated income claims; they think that if they can prove that one person made that much money they can get away with having those outrageous figures in their sales pitch by covering it with a “results not typical” disclaimer. According to the FTC that is no longer allowed.
  3. Bogus timer; no matter how long you take to sign up for this thing they’ll always take your money.
  4. Unlawfully using the trust marks; if they were a legitimate site those icons would link to a profile for TheInternetProfitHouse.com signifying that the website has been approved. As is they’re just using the images with no sort of merit attached.
Again, this is just what’s wrong based on a quick once over. When you get down to the terms and conditions you’ll find out exactly why you shouldn’t do business with this company.  They say that all you need to do is pay the $0.99 for S&H to get started, however the full story is revealed in the fine print:

So what we have here is a site that doesn’t disclose the full price of its course and is counting on the fact that you don’t read the fine print in time to cancel. The best part is that they’re located offshore, which means that all legal disputes have to take place in Nicosia, Cyprus. Good luck canceling…
By this point it should be pretty obvious that you need to stay far away from TheInternetProfitHouse.com/My Online Cash Secrets or whatever they’re going to be calling themselves next month.
